Purpose

NIJ is the research and development agency of the U.S. Department of Justice. The institute's mission includes developing knowledge that will reduce crime, enhance public safety and improve the administration of justice. NIJ sponsors basic/applied research, evaluations and pilot program demonstrations, develops new technologies and disseminates criminal justice information.
