The main target of the Council is to face the drug problem in Egypt in order to reduce its supply and its demand.

The council developed the National plan for drug-control and treatment of addiction, suggested the modification of rule 182 of 1960 concerning drug control to match with international conventions and modern policies on drug control and treatment of addiction, carried out research and studies and scientific plans to face the drug problem and organized training programs and conferences.
