Purpose

The IBCR is an international NGO created in 1994 to ensure that children's rights are respected. To identify and draw attention to the root causes of violations of children's rights and to seek practical solutions through investigation, public awareness and international cooperation. The IBCR is guided by the principles enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Its objectives are to inform and raise public awareness about children's rights; to develop strategies to promote children's rights and address violations of children's rights; to support international, regional and national initiatives to implement children's rights; and to facilitate cooperation within the international community.

Membership Statement

The ICBR has an active board drawn from international experts in human rights, children's issues and criminal justice. The IBCR is a membership organization, with members coming from various countries. The IBCR's mission and objectives are centered on the promotion and protection of children's rights worldwide, and are therefore not limited to a specific country. Furthermore, although the IBCR's General Secretariat is based in Canada, the activities of IBCR are held in various parts of the world. The structure of the IBCR is comprised of the General Assembly of Members, the Board of Directors and the General Secretariat.

Current Projects

Over the past three years, the activities of IBCR have been centered on the following: (1) sexual exploitation of children; (2) child victims and witnesses of crime; (3) children affected by armed conflict and (4) separated children and children victims of trafficking. These activities are mostly comprised of identifying and sharing good practices around the world as well as developing and disseminating guidelines, models and tools to assist in the implementaiton of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other relevant instruments.
